Italy as a main source of inspiration

Roberto Coin is a well-travelled man who draws his inspiration from nature, people, architecture, art and food. His creations testify to it. However, what inspires him most of all is undoubtedly his native country, Italy, and more specifically the wonderful city of Verona. It was the tragic love story between Romeo and Juliet that first captivated Roberto Coin, then the history of the city.

If you are familiar with the Love in Verona collection, you already know that it features a floral motif. But why? Roberto Coin goes back to medieval times, to the time of Romeo and Juliet, and imagines the hills of Verona full of blossoming flowers. Flowers were widely present during the Renaissance, a symbol of romanticism and love. For Roberto Coin, the flower motif is the essence itself of perfect love, the love that we all dream about.

Why should white gold be rhodium plated?

White gold is no doubt one of the most highly sought after metals. It is highly resistant and has a bright white colour that is easy to wear on a daily basis. However, no matter how well you care for them, white gold rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings acquire a patina over time. Yet, there is no need to worry; it is not irreversible! Indeed, there is a way for your jewellery to regain its colour and brilliance, as if it were the first day. This process is called rhodium plating. Following is an explanation of the features of white gold and this method.

All about white gold

White gold is an alloy. While yellow gold is usually a mix of 75% gold, 12.5% silver and 12.5% copper, white gold has less copper and more silver, which gives it its white colouring. Rhodium is then used to adjust the colour. Rhodium plating gives a piece of white gold jewellery a particularly dazzling white hue. White gold is highly regarded because of its resistance to shocks and corrosion, as well as for its beauty and timelessness. However, over time, shocks and friction will eventually wear down the rhodium layer to reveal an egg white colour that is not as shiny.

What is rhodium plating?

Rhodium plating is a technique used on white gold and silver jewellery. The main purpose is to give the piece a dazzling white hue. Before a piece of jewellery is rhodium plated, the jeweller thoroughly polishes it to ensure that it is completely smooth, which is a very important step for the quality of the plating. Once this is done, rhodium plating begins. Rhodium plating starts with ultrasonic cleaning, which will remove any residue that has accumulated over time. Once the piece of jewellery is clean, it will be soaked in four baths in a row. It will be degreased, rinsed several times, and then dipped in the rhodium plating solution. This last step will give your white gold jewellery a second life, making it appear as if it were new. To ensure that your jewellery never loses its shine, we strongly advise that you have it rhodium-plated by a professional every two years or so. And of course to take care of your jewellery on a daily basis.

What is a moonphase watch?

The ‘70s on your wrist with the Tissot PRX Powermatic

Fashion is an everlasting source of inspiration, and Tissot decided to draw on the 1970s to attract our attention. The Tissot PRX Powermatic is a watch that has a lot going for it. Let’s find out why it has become an absolute must-have and take a look at the models we have on our online shop and in store.

A timepiece inspired by a model released in the 1970s

As a connoisseur, it will not have escaped your notice that the Tissot PRX takes its cues from a model launched in 1978, so much so that we could call it a re-issue. With its vintage look and authentic 1970s-inspired design, the watch conveys Tissot heritage. The Tissot PRX Powermatic features a tonneau shape, a prominent bezel and sharp polished edges. The 40 mm case is attached to an integrated bracelet. Its slim profile makes it very comfortable to wear. Unlike the quartz version, the Powermatic has a dial with an embossed texture that helps reflect the light. The dial is adorned with baton-shaped hands, rectangular hour markers and a date window at 3 o’clock. Tissot used Super-LumiNova® to ensure optimal legibility.

The Powermatic movement

As the name of the watch suggests, the Tissot PRX Powermatic contains a Powermatic movement, an automatic calibre that is the latest incarnation of the famous ETA2892. It builds up an 80-hour power reserve, enabling it to last through the weekend. The watch comes with a Nivachron hairspring to protect it from magnetic fields. Get a glimpse of the movement through the sapphire crystal case back.

Oris Aquis Date Upcycle, a unique and fun watch

Do you want to wear a watch that is totally unique and special? Then the Oris Aquis Date Upcycle is for you! Oris has a daily commitment to fighting against plastic pollution in our oceans, and to further this fight the watchmaker chose to release a watch to reflect this initiative. In this post, GENEVE introduces this watch model and explains how it is made.

A timepiece made from PET plastic

Unlike other watches by the brand, this model is made from a recycled synthetic material called PET plastic, which is part of the polyester family, a manmade synthetic material derived from petroleum. As the watch is made from this recycled material, each blend is unique and no two dials are exactly the same. Oris wanted to prove that it was possible to create a watch that was both beautiful and made from recycled plastic, and they did an excellent job!

For all wrists

There are two Oris Aquis Date Upcycle models to ensure that no one is left out. Indeed, you can choose between a 41.5 mm diameter and a 36.5 mm one, ensuring that the watch will adapt to your wrist. Both sizes contain the Oris 733 automatic calibre based on the Sellita SW200-1, which builds up a power reserve of 38 hours. The model features all the elements of a diving watch, i.e., the screw-down crown, the unidirectional rotating diver’s bezel, the luminescent dot and the luminescent hands and indexes. The timepiece is water resistant to a depth of 300 metres. The ceramic bezel has an attractive light grey colour that contrasts with the coloured details of the dial. Meanwhile the dial is surprising, fun and colourful and gives your wrist an artistic touch.
