Oris Aquis Date Upcycle, a unique and fun watch

oris aquis date upcycle

Do you want to wear a watch that is totally unique and special? Then the Oris Aquis Date Upcycle is for you! Oris has a daily commitment to fighting against plastic pollution in our oceans, and to further this fight the watchmaker chose to release a watch to reflect this initiative. In this post, GENEVE introduces this watch model and explains how it is made.

A timepiece made from PET plastic

Unlike other watches by the brand, this model is made from a recycled synthetic material called PET plastic, which is part of the polyester family, a manmade synthetic material derived from petroleum. As the watch is made from this recycled material, each blend is unique and no two dials are exactly the same. Oris wanted to prove that it was possible to create a watch that was both beautiful and made from recycled plastic, and they did an excellent job!

For all wrists

There are two Oris Aquis Date Upcycle models to ensure that no one is left out. Indeed, you can choose between a 41.5 mm diameter and a 36.5 mm one, ensuring that the watch will adapt to your wrist. Both sizes contain the Oris 733 automatic calibre based on the Sellita SW200-1, which builds up a power reserve of 38 hours. The model features all the elements of a diving watch, i.e., the screw-down crown, the unidirectional rotating diver’s bezel, the luminescent dot and the luminescent hands and indexes. The timepiece is water resistant to a depth of 300 metres. The ceramic bezel has an attractive light grey colour that contrasts with the coloured details of the dial. Meanwhile the dial is surprising, fun and colourful and gives your wrist an artistic touch.

How to wind your watch

wind watch

Do you have a hand- or self-winding watch? These types of watches need to be wound from time to time to ensure that they continue to work properly. If you are unsure how to proceed, GENEVE explains what you need to do!

Hand winding

As you know, unlike self-winding watches, hand-winding watches must be wound by the owner. Otherwise, the watch will stop working. Before doing so, find out the power reserve of your timepiece. Based on this power reserve, you will need to wind the timepiece more or less often, for example in the morning before putting your watch on. Some watches have a long power reserve (80 hours), which will allow you to wind it less often. To do so, all you have to do is turn the crown clockwise until you feel resistance. Do not force the crown. When you are finished, all you need to do is set the time.

Self winding

Self-winding watches are wound automatically through the movement of the wrist, which causes the oscillating weight to rotate back and forth. When a self-winding watch is worn daily, there is no need to wind it. However, if it is not worn for several days, the power reserve will run out and the watch will have to be wound by hand. Similar to a hand-winding watch, self-winding watches are wound by turning the crown clockwise until you feel resistance. Once you have finished this first step, all you have to do is set the time!

Cases from every angle

watch case

When choosing a watch, you do so based on a range of criteria, including the material, the colour, the design and the shape. The case shape is crucial, as it is an expression of your personality. While we usually go with a round shape –the most popular–, there are in fact others to choose from. You will increasingly come across different shapes, such as rectangular or even triangular. Let’s take a closer look at case shapes.

Different case shapes

Here is an overview of the most common case shapes in the world of watches.

The standard shape: round

The quintessential classic shape, a round case suits both men and women. It is an easy-to-wear shape for every occasion that goes with every style of clothing.

The geometric shape: square and rectangular

Square and rectangular dials and cases have been very popular in recent years. These shapes, which convey a more serious and formal image, are often used in the watch industry.

The feminine shape: oval

The oval is a highly regarded shape among women. With this shape, it is possible to stick with a rounded form while adding a touch of originality.

The in-between shape: cushion-shaped

Are you deciding between square and round? Then the cushion shape is made for you! This square shape featuring rounded corners captivates enthusiasts with its unconventional lines.

The ultra-masculine shape: barrel-shaped

Drawing on the silhouette of a barrel, this shape is used less often than the others. It is more popular with men than with women. It is a bold choice that looks good with a range of styles.

breitling chonomat gmt 40

Breitling has recently announced that it is releasing two new Chronomat models. On the one hand there is the Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 and on the other, the Super Chronomat Automatic 38, both of which will be the perfect fit for any wrist. New sizes, new features and a streamlined look for the latest Breitling pieces.

The Chronomat Automatic GMT 40, a watch for travellers

Because travel is back on the agenda, watchmakers are focusing on GMT complications. GMT is the abbreviation of Greenwich Mean Time, the very first international time zone. The Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 has two time zones and a casual, versatile design. The dials come in black, blue, green, anthracite and white and are combined with a steel bracelet and case. The GMT hand stands out on the dial with its bold red colour. The watch is powered by Breitling Calibre 32. The 24-hour scale allows users to track a second time zone and know whether it is day or night. The crown is Chronomat’s signature “onion” type. The timepiece is water resistant to a depth of 200 metres. A timepiece combining the air, land and sea in an elegant, understated style.

The dial is available in silver, mint green or ice blue, which is paired with a rubber, polished metal or alligator leather strap. Anya Taylor-Joy, the new face of the Reverso Classic Duetto

jaeger-lecoultre anya taylor-joy

This year, Jaeger-LeCoultre has sought out a new face, a symbol of elegance. The Swiss watchmaker has chosen the talented actress Anya Taylor-Joy as a new ambassador. Let’s take a closer look at Anya Taylor-Joy, the latest Reverso Classic Duetto and the wonderful models that we carry at our GENEVE shops.

Anya Taylor-Joy and Jaeger-LeCoultre, a perfect match

Anya Taylor-Joy was born in Miami to Anglo-Argentine parents. She spent her childhood in Buenos Aires and London. You are likely to have seen her in critically acclaimed roles like in the series The Queen’s Gambit. She is also part of a family with close ties to Polo, and she herself is very interested in watchmaking. The actress perfectly embodies timeless elegance and multifaceted charm. For Jaeger-LeCoultre, there is no doubt that she is the epitome of the Reverso Classic Duetto.

The new Reverso Classic Duetto

The Reverso Classic Duetto timepiece is both elegant and brilliantly modern. It draws its inspiration from the codes of Art Deco style with its rectangular case, reversibility and iconic gadroons. The latest piece is a reinterpretation of a model from the late 1930s that features a similarly elegant, although completely different, style on the other side of the dial. This feminine watch has two sets of hands. It also features the three-lined gadroons, 12 Arabic numerals, two-tone finished dials and sword-shaped hands. The distinguished look is enhanced with the circular graining adorning the inside cradle. Two different perspectives offering incredible beauty and finesse to all who wear it.

How to choose a watch strap ?

watch strap

Choosing a watch strap is as important a step as choosing a watch. The strap provides not only comfort, but also style. It is a daily reflection of your personality. There are ever more strap options on the watch market, which allows you to change the strap based on your mood and desires. GENEVE wants to help you choose your watch strap to fit the occasion and your tastes.

Choose the best watch strap for you

It is sometimes difficult to make a decision regarding the strap. First of all, we advise you to take your style into account. If you have a rather classic look, not all strap styles will necessarily suit you. On the contrary, if you do physical work or practice intense physical activities, the watch strap must last over time and withstand extreme situations. First think about your style, but also about when you will be wearing the strap.

Different watch straps

Here is a guide to help you choose.

Rubber straps

Increasingly more common, rubber straps have been very popular for several years now. These kinds of water-resistant straps pair perfectly with sporty timepieces and are resistant to perspiration. Hence, if you like scuba diving and sports in general, the rubber strap is the ideal option for you! However, avoid rubber straps for formal evenings, as their sporty look is not appropriate for this kind of event.

Fabric straps

Fabric straps are the most versatile kind, as they can be used for sports and for dressier occasions. Reliable and robust, they can last for several years. They are an elegant and comfortable option.

NATO straps

Created by the British Army for pilots, NATO straps have become true fashion accessories. They are resistant and easily washable. NATO straps are especially great because they can be easily changed according to your mood.

Leather straps

For daily use, leather straps are elegant and classic. They can be worn in any circumstance. They are comfortable and come in a multitude of colours. However, we do no suggest wearing them when you come into contact with water.

Steel bracelets

Steel bracelets are also an interesting choice for everyday wear, because they are comfortable, solid and, most importantly, easy to clean! If you have a strong personality, go with a traditional steel bracelet. Conversely, if you prefer something more understated, a Milanese mesh bracelet will be perfect for you.

If you need help choosing your watch strap, we look forward to helping you at our shop.

The Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph: the pilot’s watch for all generations

Breitling has been making us dream with the Breitling pilot’s watch for 70 years now. To celebrate this anniversary, Breitling is unveiling a more modern, younger, more colorful reinterpretation of the collection. Let’s take a look at the Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph, a true watchmaking icon that has always been on everyone’s lips.

An in-house movement for stellar performance

In addition to the perfect combination of Breitling’s heritage and new on-trend design codes, the latest Navitimers are also very precise tool watches. Indeed, all the timepieces contain a self-winding mechanical movement, the COSC-certified Manufacture Breitling 01 calibre. The movement builds up a power reserve of approximately 70 hours, making it ideal for changing watches over the weekend. It is also extremely precise, oscillating at 28,800 vibrations per hour.

A modern and retro style for the Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph

The Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph retains its look and feel by keeping the elements that have always been there: a circular slide rule, baton indexes, a trio of chronograph counters and a notched bezel. Nevertheless, it has an updated profile thanks to the flattened slide rule and domed glass. The watch has a slimmer silhouette, which enhances the view of the COSC-certified Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01 through the transparent case back. It is available in three different sizes –41, 43 and 46 mm–, ensuring that there will be a model that is perfect for you! The case comes in a first version in stainless steel and a second version in 18-carat red gold. As for the bracelet, you can choose between a metal bracelet and an alligator strap. Meanwhile, the dial sports a palette of colours between blue, green, copper or even black and white. And the detail that makes this watch even more wonderful is the return of the winged logo of AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) at 12 o’clock. In short, the Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph features a more up-to-date look that is sure to delight all generations.
