THE BIG 5 OF THE DIVING WATCHES BRANDS

The primary use of dive watches is far less important to their owners today than it was in the past. This does not make dive watches and their brands any less interesting.

In this article we are going to expose which ones are these brands:

OMEGA

For the following we are going to focus on the brands OMEGA and Panerai.

OMEGA

One of the leading brands of diving watches is, and always has been, Omega, which launched the Omega Marine in 1932. At the time, the water resistance of the watches was at most splash proof, it was the first watch that could be worn underwater. The Omega Marine was immersed in Lake Geneva to a depth of 73 meters (240 feet) and then tested in a pressure chamber where it withstood a depth of 135 meters (443 feet). This experience gave the brand the impetus to develop water-resistant watches, making Omega one of the leading brands of diving watches. The popularity of scuba diving in the years following the Second World War made this period the first era of modern diving watches. Omega launched its famous Seamaster 300 in 1957 as part of its Speedmaster, Railmaster and Seamaster trilogy. This timepiece became a cult watch and is still the inspiration for the current Seamaster 300 collection. Today, Omega continues to develop advanced diving tools for professional divers.

PANERAI

Panerai is also a famous name in the world of diving watches. In the first half of the 20th century, Panerai earned a reputation as the official supplier of marine instruments to the Italian Royal Navy, as well as watches for the army’s combat divers. The timepieces manufactured by Panerai in the 1930s for the Italian Navy are still very popular among diving watch enthusiasts today. For the record, all of these dive watches were designed and manufactured by Rolex. With their oversized cushion-shaped cases and minimalist dials with large numerals, these watches we know today as Radiomir still stand out today.

What are complications?

The word complication indicates something that is considered complex or difficult. As
regards watchmaking, a complication consists of additional functions that complement a watch.

What difference does a complication make?

These features added to a watch represent a serious challenge to skilled watchmakers who have to incorporate them in spaces as small as a wristwatch case.
The more functions a watch has, the more complicated it will be to manufacture.
Today, complications add value to watches and directly affect their price. There are many different types of complications, including chronograph, power reserve, tourbillon, etc.
Here we are going to focus on the tourbillon, the GMT and the chronograph.

Tourbillon

What is a tourbillon? In basic terms, it is a feature that improves the accuracy of mechanical watches by offsetting the effects that gravity can have on certain parts of the movement when the watch changes position.

Tourbillon watches feature a tourbillon carriage that is often visible on the watch’s face.

GMT

This is a very useful complication, especially for frequent travellers, as it makes it possible to quickly see the time in the place you are visiting and at home. GMT stands for “Greenwich Mean Time”, thus giving meaning to the world time function.

GMT is the mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, which marks the Prime Meridian that runs from the North Pole to the South Pole.

This Panerai features a tourbillon as well as a GMT function…

Chronograph

It is used to measure short time intervals. To do so, a watch with a simple chronograph has two push-buttons, one on each side of the crown, that are used to start, stop and reset the measurement.

There are other kinds of chronographs:

Mono-pusher: three actions are performed with a single push-button
Rattrapante: allows you to time different events that start but do not stop at the same time.
Flyback: allows the chronograph hand to return to zero and restart immediately by pressing the push-button once.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of Breitling’s legendary watch, and the occasion sees a completely revamped collection featuring a striking color palette, modernized styling and unforgettable journeys.

Throughout Breitling’s 70-year history, its first aviator watch has been loved by aviators and trendsetters alike. From major celebrities to an astronaut have worn this legendary timepiece.

On this occasion, tribute is paid to this legend in the world of watchmaking.

EVOLUTION OF THE MODERN RETRO STYLE

In creating this Navitimer, its DNA has been retained with original and recognisable aspects of the icon. With its circular slide rule, baton indexes, trio of chronograph counters and notched bezel for easy handling.

This time, the watch is available in several sizes: 46, 43 and 41 mm. Two case materials: stainless steel or 18-carat red gold. Different straps: semi-gloss alligator leather or seven-row metal.

Emphasis should be placed on its colors; blue, green and copper. It is these new colors that define the new dial options.

In addition to all these details that make you fall in love, there is a singularity that awakens nostalgia and that is the return of the AOPA wings to their initial position at 12 o’clock.

MAY 2022: THE LATEST FROM OMEGA

The year 2022 is full of great new pieces for watch lovers. It looks like it is going to be a year of accomplishments and achievements for Omega. April marked the arrival of the new Speedmasters, the Speedmaster 57 and the Moonshine Gold. Now we are welcoming the new Constellation 28 presented by none other than actress Zoë Kravitz, aka Catwoman in the new The Batman film. Other additions are the Constellation Co-Axial Master Chronometer 36 and the new 007-edition Diver 300m Co-Axial Master Chronometer 42 mm.

THE CONSTELLATION 28 MM

This work of art from the 5^th generation of the iconic Constellation models is distinguished by its finesse and femininity. It features slimmer claws, refined bezels and exquisite bevelling along the edges of the case and bracelet, making the piece look more compact and streamlined. The skeletonised hands and hour markers on each new Constellation 28 mm model are crafted in 18-carat white gold. Each model in the collection has its own personality expressed through vibrant colours on the dial and a matching bezel. Their beauty is also the result of the pastel colours.

CONSTELLATION CO-AXIAL MASTER CHRONOMETER 36 MM

The timeless, stunning design of this Omega Constellation stands out with its famous half-moons, the “claws” on the case and its iconic mono-rang bracelet.

It is crafted out of 18-carat Sedna gold and measures 36 mm in diameter. It features a bezel engraved with Roman numerals, a blue sun-brushed dial with a date window at 6 o’clock, and hands, Omega logo, Constellation star and hour markers made out of 18-carat Sedna gold.

DIVER 300M CO-AXIAL MASTER CHRONOMETER 42 MM

This watch, this work of art, is identical to the watch worn by 007, Daniel Craig, in the film No Time to Die. Measuring 42 mm in diameter, it is made out of strong yet lightweight grade 2 titanium and features a «tropical» brown aluminium bezel ring and dial.

It is slightly slimmer than standard Diver 300M models, because of the convex shape of the sapphire glass, and comes with a brown, grey and beige striped NATO strap with 007 engraved on a titanium loop.

Omega continues to be a top player in 2022 with its constant release of new models.

Geneve Company presenta las novedades de Panerai

El mes pasado, organizamos el primer evento de Panerai en las Islas Canarias. Esta exposición privada se celebró en el lujoso Hotel Santa Catalina. Al acto asistieron invitados de excepción, entre ellos el director español de Panerai. Sin duda, la oportunidad perfecta para hacerles descubrir las últimas innovaciones relojeras de la marca italiana.

Las colecciones y creaciones en el punto de mira

El 22 de marzo, celebramos las últimas creaciones de Panerai. Si no tuvo la oportunidad de asistir a nuestro evento, este artículo le ofrece la posibilidad de descubrir algunos de los modelos presentados ese día.

RADIOMIR 1940 3 DAYS ACCIAIO

En 1916, Officine Panerai presentó una patente para una sustancia llamada «Radiomir», un material luminiscente a base de radio. Veinte años más tarde, Panerai fabricó diez prototipos para los buzos de la Marina Real Italiana, un modelo que más tarde se conocería como Radiomir, por el material patentado inventado por Panerai.

SUBMERSIBLE 42

Panerai se asocia históricamente con el mundo del mar, y el océano es el terreno de juego natural de la marca.

Los relojes sumergibles se inspiran en el diseño del Egiziano, fabricado para la Marina egipcia en 1956. El primer Panerai Submersible para el público civil se presentó en 1998, con caja de acero de 44 mm, bisel giratorio unidireccional y resistencia al agua hasta 300 metros.

En la actualidad, los relojes Panerai Submersible presentan un diseño atrevido y un bisel giratorio unidireccional.

LUMINOR 8 DAYS POWER RESERVE

La colección Luminor es el núcleo de Panerai, con una amplia gama desarrollada por funciones y materiales.

Luminor se centra en los modelos icónicos de Panerai, cuyas cajas se inspiran en los modelos históricos de los años 50 y hoy representan la esencia de Panerai y un símbolo del diseño italiano. La característica clave de estos relojes es el icónico y patentado dispositivo de protección de la corona con palanca, que hace del Luminor uno de los relojes más reconocibles del sector.

LUMINOR DUE 42

La nueva colección LUMINOR DUE es un nuevo capítulo en la historia de Panerai.

Una nueva caja, fielmente inspirada en las líneas del clásico Luminor de los años 50 pero sutilmente rediseñada, entra en la historia de Officine Panerai. Una vez más, el diseño italiano y la experiencia técnica relojera suiza se unen para renovar la historia de una marca única en el panorama de la relojería deportiva internacional.

Pantone® X IWC Schaffhausen

Color is one of the characteristics that make us choose one watch over another. This year, the famous Swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen has teamed up with Pantone® to create some unique timepieces. Let’s discover the models unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2022.

IWC Woodland

This color, we are sure, will make many people fall in love with it. This deep green is inspired by the suits of elite pilots and the forest landscapes of the TOPGUN flying school. The watch is equipped with the IWC Manufacture Caliber 69380, which ensures accurate timekeeping measurements up to 12 hours. This movement is robust, precise, and reliable.

IWC Lake Tahoe

The color of Lake Tahoe is inspired by the typical winter white of the Lake Tahoe area. This area is often used for training by naval aviators. The 44mm white ceramic case contrasts perfectly with the black dial and hands. Like the previous timepiece, this model is also equipped with the IWC Manufacture Caliber 69380.

IWC Mojave Desert

It is the location of the TOPGUN flight school that made this color possible. Indeed, this sandy color is inspired by the desert landscape that can be seen around China Lake. The Mojave Desert is equipped with the IWC 52615 movement, which has been designed to withstand extreme conditions. With its exceptional resistance to magnetic fields and a power reserve of up to 7 days, this watch is intented for the modern adventurer.

IWC Ceratanium®

This not-quite-black is mesmerizing thanks to its matte appearance. The new Ceratanium® material has an ultra-sophisticated manufacturing process. Behind this black envelope is the IWC Calibre 69385, an extremely robust, reliable and precise chronograph movement.

IWC Jet Black

This model features a deep, matte black color that is inspired by the technical components of modern jet aircraft. The watch is equipped with Caliber 82100 which gives it a nice 60-hour power reserve.

Como habrán notado, asistimos a la feria anual de relojes: Relojes y Maravillas 2022. Durante este evento, pudimos descubrir las novedades de la Casa Patek Philippe. Concéntrese en estas cuatro maravillas.

Patek Philippe Calendario Anual Tiempo de Viaje Ref. 5326G

Para este modelo, Patek Philippe decidió combinar su calendario anual patentado con su sistema Travel Time. Esto permite una visualización con una segunda zona horaria. El reloj está equipado con un movimiento automático. La caja de tipo Calatrava presenta el patrón «Clous de Paris» característico del famoso relojero Patek Philippe.

Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 7130R

El icónico World Timer está ahora disponible para las mujeres en un nuevo color: el oro rosa. La esfera verde va acompañada de una correa de piel de becerro. El bisel está engastado con diamantes, reforzando el toque femenino. Equipado con el calibre 240 HU, el reloj muestra la hora simultáneamente en los 24 husos horarios. Gracias al mecanismo patentado, el huso horario puede cambiarse simplemente presionando el pulsador situado a las 10 horas.

Patek Philippe Repetición de Minutos Calendario Perpetuo Ref. 5374-300P

Este reloj joya es una reinterpretación de la Gran Complicación. La caja y el bisel son de platino y están pavimentados con diamantes talla baguette. Los marcadores de minutos y horas son de zafiro azul cortado en forma de baguette y combinan perfectamente con la esfera lacada azul. El reloj emite un sonido profundo gracias al calibre automático R 27 Q. Un precioso reloj con 228 diamantes talla baguette y 13 zafiros talla baguette.

Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 5226G

Esta novedad tiene un aspecto vintage con su elegante caja de oro blanco y el motivo «Clous de Paris» en el lateral del reloj. La esfera gris carbón está resaltada por un borde negro degradado que remite a las cajas de las cámaras antiguas. El reloj está equipado con el calibre 26-330 S C de cuerda automática.

OMEGA 2022: the latest additions to the Speedmaster range

The year 2022 is looking good for OMEGA. Many new releases are expected, and the brand is giving the Speedmaster line a facelift. It is unveiling a new version of the Speedmaster 57 and the Moonshine Gold. Here is a look at these two models that you are sure to love.

The new Speedmaster 57

As its name suggest, the first Speedmaster model was released in 1957. It featured a hand-winding Calibre 321 movement, a flat dial and “broad arrow” hands. Today the new model comes in a much more modern 40.5 mm case.The timepiece is equipped with the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9906. This precise and reliable calibre builds up a 60-hour power reserve. There are four versions in terms of colours. Of particular note is the choice between a green, blue or red dial. The “flat link” bracelet is in steel and takes its cues from its ancestor. The Speedmaster 57 has a sporty, vintage look.

The Speedmaster Moonshine Gold

Another new release: the Moonshine^TM Gold. The material used is a unique 18-carat yellow gold alloy. There are two versions available: one in all gold with a dark green dial and the other, the Moonshine Gold Panda, with a gold dial adorned with black sub-dials. On this model, the dial is both readable and balanced with the ceramic and Moonshine gold bezel. Calibre 3861 can be seen through the sapphire glass case back on both models.

Omega is off to a good start this year, presenting us with vintage-looking, luxurious timepieces.
