Trend: mismatched earrings

Why keep it simple when it can be complicated? Following the success of asymmetrical jewellery, brands are increasingly offering mismatched earrings. A rising trend that is sure to continue. If you want to get on board, here are our tips and a selection of earrings to be worn together!

Why go with mismatched earrings?

Most of the time, when you buy earrings, they are identical. By mismatching, you can mix up your earrings and create a new look. You can easily imagine wearing a stud on the left and a dangly piece on the right. Another option is to wear one earring in a particular shape paired with another in a different shape. It’s all about being bold yet not haphazard! And above all, don’t forget to have fun!

Our tips for choosing mismatched earrings

If you don’t normally do so, don’t choose overly extravagant pieces. The combination should be subtle and harmonious; thus, it is easier to match studs with studs, dangle earrings with dangle earrings, and hoops with hoops. And good news! You can once again wear that earring that you hadn’t wanted to throw away but had gone untouched since you lost the other one in the pair. You can also expand your possibilities by buying pairs from the same collection and mixing and matching the ones you wear together.

Here is a selection of earrings that you can mix and match at will for a completely harmonious and stylish look!

Watch certifications

All watch connoisseurs are concerned about certifications, as they should be. Certifications are a guarantee of quality and precision. They reflect the excellence, knowhow and passion of Swiss watch manufacturers. Would you like to know more about watch certifications? Here you go.

COSC certification

In 1973, five watchmaking cantons (Bern, Geneva, Neuchâtel, Soleure and Vaud) and the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry decided to found the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute, also known as the COSC. This independent control body grants certificates of excellence exclusively to Swiss watches.

To earn this certification, a watch undergoes performance-related testing. The average daily rate, the difference between rates in horizontal and vertical position, and the variation in rate depending on temperature are all fundamental criteria to earn this certification. Many major brands have their models regularly certified by the COSC, including Rolex, OMEGA, Tissot and TAG Heuer.

OMEGA METAS certification

In 2015, legendary watchmaker OMEGA unveiled its first Master Chronometer (METAS) certified watch, the OMEGA Globemaster Co-Axial Master Chronometer. This certification can be obtained by all Swiss watches, in addition to COSC certification. It ensures excellence in terms of performance and resistance to magnetic fields.

This certification, granted in addition to COSC certification, is open to all Swiss watches. It guarantees an unprecedented level of performance in terms of precision and resistance to magnetic fields.

A watch is rigorously tested to earn METAS certification. Indeed, it must withstand a magnetic field of up to 15,000 gauss. It must also have superior power reserve and water resistance. These tests take place over the course of 10 days. At the end of this time, if a watch passes the tests, it will receive METAS certification. Such certification is a way to dispel many concerns about the proper functioning of a timepiece.

There are still other certifications. If you would like to learn more, feel free to ask us for advice about certifications directly at our shop.

How to take care of a piece of jewellery

When you buy a piece of jewellery that is beautiful, shiny and free of scratches, you want to keep it looking new for as long as possible!

Day to day

Here are three tips to prevent damage to your jewellery over the years:

  • Do not sleep with your jewellery on; the pieces may get tangled with one another or you may knock them while sleeping.
  • Stay away from saltwater, as it attacks metals.
  • Take off your jewellery when applying any sort of lotion, since beauty products can dull the shine.

Give your jewellery an overall cleaning

There are different old wives’ techniques for cleaning jewellery on the surface:

  • Soak your jewellery in lukewarm water.
  • Wash your jewellery with hard soap.
  • Clean your jewellery with toothpaste.

Be careful not to make the following mistakes:

  • Rubbing too hard.
  • Using chemicals.
  • Hitting your stones unintentionally (they might crack).
  • Exposing your jewellery to excessive heat.

Tips for silver jewellery

Silver is an especially soft metal. It scratches easily and oxidises quickly, making it look black. Whether your pieces are plated or solid, the techniques to clean them are the same.

  • Lemon juice: the acidity of lemon juice helps remove lime deposits and makes silver shine. Use a soft cloth to rub your jewellery with lemon juice. Then rinse it with water. You can do the same thing with cold ash (from a cigarette or a fireplace).
  • Baking soda: mix a tablespoon of baking soda with water to make a paste. Gently rub your jewellery with the paste and then polish it with a soft cloth.
  • Toothpaste: using a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste, gently clean your jewellery. Then rinse it with water and clean it with a soft cloth.
  • Coca-Cola: soak your jewellery in a glass filled with Coca-Cola and then rinse it with clean water.

Tips for gold jewellery

Gold is a soft metal that scratches easily and gets dirty quickly. While it is important to clean it, it is best to avoid using products that are too aggressive. Remember to always rinse your jewellery with water.

Gold is cleaned like silver, i.e., with toothpaste and baking soda.

To wash gold and remove the dirt that tarnishes it, just use dish soap or soapy water. Immerse your gold jewellery in a bowl of hot water and dish soap. Let it sit overnight and then scrub it with a toothbrush. Rinse it well with clean water. This is ideal for removing any oil or grease.

There is also a trick with talcum powder, which can bring back gold’s shine to make it look like new without damaging it. Gently rub your gold jewellery with talcum powder using a soft cloth.

If you have any questions or doubts, talk to a professional. If you want to give your pieces of jewellery a complete facelift, take them to your jeweller.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful holiday season!

Roberto Coin: eternal love for jewellery!

Fashion is changeable. It is whimsical. Style is not. Style is part of us, of our life, in every moment and every expression. This lovely sentence by Roberto Coin perfectly reflects the jeweller’s creations. The brand’s founder creates stunning pieces, each as wonderful as the next. Here is a look at the history of Roberto Coin and its legendary collection.

A passion becomes a true vocation

Roberto Coin launched his brand in 1996. He was driven by an innate love for the world of art and fashion and sought to make a living through this passion, i.e., by making jewellery. After working in the hotel industry, he gave in to his passion and started designing extraordinary pieces of jewellery. At the time, the jeweller was based in Vicenza, Italy, known as the «City of Gold». His talent quickly attracted attention, and the brand became one of the most famous in Italy. The creations today are the result of an exciting process and a journey through different cultures.

Did you know?

Each piece of jewellery contains a small set ruby that is in direct contact with the skin of the person wearing it. This is how Roberto Coin signs his creations, a signature that represents the message of good wishes that Roberto Coin dedicates to his passionate customers.

The brand’s iconic collections

PRINCESS FLOWER

Inspired by the floral decorations of Venetian palaces, this collection is an expression of the more romantic side of women’s imaginations. It is made of flowers born from the hands of craftspeople dedicated to the princess who lives inside every woman.

DIAMOND PRINCESS

These pieces of jewellery are symbols of a romanticism that Roberto Coin revives from the past and reinterprets with an ultra-feminine and contemporary look. The flower motif conveys all the grace of sensuality, while the diamonds radiate the purity that belongs only to dreamers.

POIS MOI

Pois Moi is one of the brand’s iconic ranges. It combines a vintage style and an undeniably modern look. The pieces are covered with diamonds and gold.

LOVE IN VERONA

Inspired by the city of Verona, a symbol of love and the set of the love story between Romeo and Juliet. Love in Verona strengthens the bond between Roberto Coin and the Italian cities that inspire him. The pieces have a minimal and contemporary look yet hold a soul as ancient as eternal love.

PALAZZO DUCALE

The marble facade of Venice’s most famous palace, the Doge’s Palace, becomes a wearable decoration. The pieces reinterpret the designs of the Palace through gold and precious stones. A hymn to Venetian Gothic art and its unforgettable shapes.

New store: Longines in Geneva!

Last month, the prestigious Swiss watchmaker Longines, synonymous with elegance, luxury and refinement, opened its new shop in the centre of Geneva

It all began in 1832 when Auguste Agassiz and two partners founded a watch shop in Saint-Imier. That same year, they produced their first movement, the 20A, a 20-ligne model that had an anchor escapement, a winding device and a time setting device. Over the years, the company established itself around the world, particularly in the United States.

The year 1852 was a key one for Longines, as it marked the arrival of the economist Ernest Francillon, Agassiz’s nephew. Taking the reins of the family business, the economist implemented a range of developments, including the Longines factory in 1867. Shortly after the opening of the workshop, the watch brand earned its first medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris, the first in a long series of recognitions. The winged hourglass brand, which is now part of the Swatch Group, is the oldest watch brand still in use, unchanged. Its watches are unmistakable symbols of passion for excellence.

New shop

At 40 Rue du Rhône, one of the best-known shopping streets in Switzerland, Longines’ newest shop windows have been waiting to be discovered since October 2021. The shop was designed to offer an elegant and luxurious setting.

On the outside, you will find a clean and sophisticated façade showcasing the brand’s identity. Inside, the shop is warm and welcoming, elegantly featuring an array of materials in the watchmaker’s signature colours. Moreover, it is the only shop with a Collector’s Corner, an area reserved exclusively for vintage watches.

Longines describes this new shop as “a contemporary interpretation of Longines’ traditional values and illustrates the brand’s innate ability to match elegance and innovation.”
